Performance Comparison of AODV and DSR routing protocols in MANET: A study

A wireless network is a growing technology that allows users to access services and information electronically, irrespective of their geographic locations. Wireless network can be classified in two types: infrastructure network and infrastructure less (ad hoc) network. Mobile ad hoc network is an infrastructure less network without any central coordination point. Mobile ad hoc networks are characterized by dynamic topologies, infrastructure less, distributed operation, multi hop, limited resources and lack of centralized control. Ad hoc protocols such as AODV, DSR and DSDV have been proposed to solve multi hop problems in MANET. Performance comparison of many of these protocols have been done focusing on metrics such as packet delivery, end to end delay, routing overhead and network load. In this study paper we have studied the performance of AODV and DSR routing protocols in various network scenarios such as constrained situation, mobility of nodes, under security attack, VBR traffic and energy consumption.
